The Latin Quarter
Discover the Latin Quarter in the 5th arrondissement
A must-see area of Paris, the Latin Quarter is located on the left bank and is home to a number of tourist attractions, including the Pantheon, the Sorbonne, the Palais and the Luxembourg Gardens, Place St Michel, Boulevard St Michel, the Arènes de Lutèce, the Arab World Institute and the Jardin des Plantes.
There are still many publishing houses and specialist bookshops. But it's also a tourist district with plenty of restaurants and cafés. And the Paradis Latin, the Odéon theatre and the Caveau de la Huchette are just some of the renowned theatres.
The district owes its name simply to the many students who frequented it in the past... and who spoke Latin.
